Professor Lynn Morris assumed the role of Interim Executive Director of the National Institute for Communicable Diseases in December 2017. She is a Medical Scientist who has been at the NICD for the past 25 years as the head of the HIV Virology Section within the Centre for HIV and STIs. Lynn is an NRF A-rated researcher and has shown exceptional leadership through establishing a world-class laboratory dedicated to developing a vaccine against HIV. She holds a joint appointment as Research Professor at the University of the Witwatersrand, where she also completed her undergraduate studies, and a DPhil from the University of Oxford. She has published over 220 papers with a current author H-Index of 52. Professor Morris has received several awards including the University of the Witwatersrand’s Vice Chancellor Research Award, the South African Medical Research Council’s Gold Merit Award and a Harry Oppenheimer Memorial Trust Fellowship Award. She is also listed on the Thompsons Reuters ISI list of the 3000 highest cited researchers in the world, for the last 3 years.
