Background
Our library is named the PRF Library and it is going to be housed at the Poliomyelitis Research Foundation (PRF) Training Centre which will be finished towards the end of 2006.
Objective
The PRF Library aims to develop and maintain an information service that will provide the NICD staff with accurate information to meet their research and administrative tasks. The staff is committed in the provision of a welcoming and conducive environment for research, study, learning and reading.
Membership
The NICD staff are the primary users of the library. Secondary users include NHLS staff, visiting students and doctors, interlibrary loan members, and the public.
Services and Facilities
Information services include the provision of information and references from information sources in medical research and related fields
Circulation includes lending books and journals to users according to their information requests.
Document delivery is done by making copies of requested articles and sending them to users through our internal mailing system.
Interlibrary loans include the requesting of documents or articles, which our library does not have from other libraries that subscribe to SABINET. International requests are also done through the system.
Our library attends to information queries directed by staff members on a daily basis and provides information as per requests
Photocopying of documents is done for staff who send in their information requests to the library.
Our library has Internet access to allow for information searches in various fields of interest to users.
Our Collection
Books
The PRF Library houses approximately 2100 books on medical research and related fields, including approximately 700 articles by our staff members in the reprint collection.
