WELCOME to the South Africa Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Programme (SAFELTP).
Located in Johannesburg, South Africa, and officially launched in May 2006, the SAFELTP is designed to train field epidemiology fellows and public health laboratory fellows for leadership positions in the South African national and provincial health services and the National Health Laboratory Services (NHLS).
The two-year program leads to a Master of Public Health (MPH) offered through the University of Pretoria. Students choose between two tracks: a field epidemiology track or a laboratory management track. Students receive instruction and mentoring in their respective areas while at the same time providing service to the National and Provincial Departments of Health and the NHLS.
