Eligibility


The program is directed at post-graduate-level health professionals in entry- or mid-level positions. Both medical and non-medical health workers are eligible to apply. Candidates are typically sponsored either by their own organization (i.e., the provincial or national health departments of South Africa) or by SAFELTP. The typical class has between 10 and 12 students.

>Educational requirements

  • A 3-year university bachelors degree from an accredited university plus at least 5 years’ applicable work experience (see below) OR
  • A 4-year university bachelors degree from an accredited university with at least 2 years’ applicable work experience (see below); OR
  • An Honours degree from an accredited university to qualify for admission OR
  • A Master degree or a medical degree from an accredited university
Work experience
  • Professional experience in a health field or other fields relevant to health
  • Experience in working in the South African public health system is desirable
Other requirements
  • Applicants should be fluent in spoken and written English. Other language skills are desirable.
