OVERVIEW
The NICD is committed to providing accurate and reliable laboratory results as a reference and specialised laboratories for pathogen detection, disease surveillance and monitoring, outbreak response and the provision of scientific evidence to prevent and control infectious diseases. In order to ensure quality, the NICD has an Integrated Quality Management System. SANAS has accredited NICD laboratories to ISO15189 for medical laboratories and ISO/IEC 17025 for testing laboratories. NICD transversal departments have ISO9001 certification.
Certification of ISO 9001 encompasses the following NICD Transversal Departments: Division of Biosafety and Biosecurity, Finance, Procurement, Human Resources, Information Technology, NICD Communication Department, Surveillance Data Warehouse, and Business Intelligence.
OBJECTIVES
The Quality Assurance Unit is responsible for ensuring that the quality management systems conform to the requirements of all the relevant ISO standards, including ISO9001:2015. The responsibilities of the Quality Assurance Unit concerning ISO9001:2015 are as follows:
- Ensuring that the quality management system for the transversal departments conforms to the requirements of ISO9001 International Standard;
- Supporting the various departmental managers to ensure that the processes are delivering their intended outputs;
- Reporting on the performance of the quality management system, opportunities for improvement and the need for change or innovation;
- Ensuring the promotion of customer focus throughout the organization;
- Ensuring that the integrity of the quality management system is maintained when changes are made to quality
