What is Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV)?
RSV is a common virus. In most countries RSV is seasonal. In South Africa, the RSV season happens each year from February to May (before the influenza season). During this time many infants and children will become infected with RSV. However, RSV infection does occur all year round. RSV causes respiratory tract illness, either in the upper airways (nose and throat) or in the lower airways, like the lungs.
