Flu Season is Coming — Prof Anne von Gottberg explains why you should get vaccinated
Why This Year’s Flu Season Matters
Based on global trends and local surveillance, the NICD anticipates a more active flu season in 2025. As respiratory viruses re-emerge in the post-COVID landscape, many people may be more vulnerable due to reduced exposure and waning immunity.
“The flu virus can be unpredictable and serious,” says Prof von Gottberg in the interview. “Vaccination is still the best tool we have to reduce severe illness, especially for people at high risk.”
What You Can Do
- Get vaccinated — it takes about two weeks for full protection
- Encourage vulnerable loved ones to do the same
- Visit your clinic, pharmacy, or healthcare provider early in the season
- Stay informed through trusted sources like the NICD
